A Chilly Challenge to Warm Our Hearts

It’s no secret that the SF Network’s facilities are strengthening and uniting communities through sports and recreation. A recent example that has been warming our hearts during this frigid season is the epic ‘Freez’n for a Reason’ fundraiser event hosted in part by Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater (SMPA). Demonstrating the altruistic spirit and commitment to the community, this event reached its goal of $10,000 to support The Miracle League of Albertville.

The fundraiser began as a friendly competition between the Albertville Police Department and Albertville Fire and Rescue. If either department could raise $2,000 first, the opposing chief would take an icy plunge. The stakes were raised with a promise that Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea would join the plunge if a combined total of $10,000 was raised. The community came together, surpassed the goal, and made it a day to remember.

“The fundraiser was an overwhelming success!” said Miranda Pitts, Marketing Coordinator of Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater. “Our community loves supporting both departments, as well as The Miracle League, so it was a perfect opportunity.”

The Miracle League of Albertville, which offers baseball experiences to special needs athletes, has grown significantly since its inception in 2021. Starting with 51 athletes and four teams, it currently boasts 189 athletes and 15 teams.

“At Sand Mountain Park, our goal is to be a facility that serves every member of our community,” added General Manager Shawn Perry. “I couldn’t be prouder of our team for organizing this event so quickly and successfully.”

The ‘Freez’n for a Reason’ event reaffirmed the network’s commitment to being more than just a sports and recreation facility. The Sports Facilities Companies are partners and pillars in the communities they serve, always seeking ways to give back and encourage community engagement.

Stay tuned to the SF Network for more heartening stories about how we are impacting communities one game, one event, and one icy plunge at a time.
