Championing Inclusion Through Special Olympics Partnerships

Sports bring people together, and these three SFNetwork facilities are shining examples of how partnerships with Special Olympics can create meaningful and inclusive experiences for everyone, regardless of skill or ability. From hosting major tournaments to offering vital health programs, these venues are making a difference in their communities.

Wintrust Sports Complex (Bedford Park, Illinois)

This facility has truly embraced its role as the official home of Special Olympics Illinois since 2023. By hosting a variety of events, from MedFest, where more than 400 athletes received free health certifications and prescription eyewear, to the State Floor Hockey Tournament, which saw spirited participation from Chicago Blackhawks’ mascot Tommy Hawk, Wintrust is redefining community support. “Wintrust doesn’t just provide a space for inclusivity,” says General Manager Jenn Quinlan, “it creates a community where every athlete feels seen and supported.”

RIZE Sports (Leetsdale, Pennsylvania)

Moving over to Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, RIZE Sports also stands out with its inclusive approach. Their Special Olympics Pennsylvania basketball tournament was uplifted by the enthusiastic attendance of the University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball team. The presence of professional athletes inspired not just competition, but connections and inspiration. “By creating memorable moments, RIZE Sports fosters a supportive environment for competition and camaraderie alike,” said General Manager Scott Markovich, capturing the essence of what these partnerships aim to achieve.

Rocky Top Sports World (Gatlinburg, Tennessee)

Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, rounds out this inspiring trio by hosting the basketball portion of the Special Olympics Tennessee Winter Games. It wasn’t just about the games, but also about celebrating achievements with an Opening Ceremony, victory celebrations, and hosting Healthy Athletes screenings to promote overall wellness. As General Manager Doug Grote noted, “These efforts demonstrate how sports facilities like ours can be centers of inspiration, inclusivity, and holistic athlete support.”

These partnerships between sports facilities and Special Olympics illustrate how investing in inclusivity creates experiences that benefit athletes, families, and communities alike. By opening their doors and hearts, Wintrust Sports Complex, RIZE Sports, and Rocky Top Sports World are making a real difference, proving that sports are for everyone.
