On Wednesday, February 19, over 100 proud Macon residents made their way to the State Capitol for Macon Day, an event hosted by the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event was even more special as the State of Georgia officially recognized February 19 as Macon Day through Senate Resolution 174, honoring Macon’s contributions to the state.

The day commenced with two buses transporting community partners, program sponsors, and the Leadership Macon Class of 2025 to the Capitol. Attendees engaged with Georgia public officials and state policy experts, delving into issues and opportunities pertinent to the Macon region.

“Macon Day made our presence seen and heard at the State Capitol,” remarked Chamber President and CEO Jessica Walden. “From our full day of advocacy at the Gold Dome to our fish fry reception that showcased the best of Macon, it was a day for Georgia to remember, especially when it comes to our collective impact on the State.”

The evening transitioned to the Georgia Freight Depot for the Macon Day Fish Fry, a celebration of Macon’s rich musical legacy and recent accolades, including its recognition by the Wall Street Journal as one of the “Top 25” destinations to visit in 2025. Entertainment featured local talents like Dean Brown and a full concert by the Macon Music Revue, paying homage to legends such as Little Richard, the Allman Brothers Band, and Otis Redding. A special highlight was Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper joining the band on stage.

Adding to the festivities, Rhythm & Rally set up a pickleball court, spotlighting Macon as home to the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility. Marketing Manager Ally Bowman shared, “We’ve been thrilled to welcome pickleball enthusiasts from nearly every state and many countries to our facility. It’s heartwarming to see both our local community and travelers coming together, making Macon a true pickleball destination.”

Local culinary staples, including Nu-Way Weiners, Acres and Oak Kitchen, and Jim Shaw’s Seafood, provided delectable fare, ensuring attendees experienced the true flavors of Macon.

Macon Day at the State Capitol was more than an event; it was a testament to the city’s unity, cultural richness, and burgeoning reputation as a premier destination in Georgia.
